Beyoncé will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this month’s MTV Video Music Awards, the network said Thursday. The hippy songstress joins the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna and Justin Timberlake — who have each received the coveted achievement prize.
The “Drunk in Love” singer is up for Moonmen in a host of categories at this year’s ceremony; including Best Female (“Partition”), Best Collaboration (“Drunk in Love”), Best Video with a Message (“Pretty Hurts”) and the prized Video of the Year (“Drunk in Love”). Beyoncé — already the recipient of 12 VMAs — could set a record for the second most career wins. Lady Gaga and Peter Gabriel are tied for the current record, each with 13 Moonmen. Madonna leads with a career total of 20.
Mrs. Carter will also take the stage for her fourth ever VMAs performance — the last time was for her surprise pregnancy reveal in 2011.
The annual MTV VMAs will air live from The Forum in Los Angeles Aug. 24 @ 9 p.m. ET.
