So not only was Beyonce’s VMAs bump-reveal the coolest way ever to announce a pregnancy, it also broke a world record. (Dusting off shoulders and sticking nose in the air…)
Twitter reached a new record of 8,868 tweets per second in the moments after the singer unveiled her baby bump on the red carpet at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. Beyonce, 29, revealed news that she and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child together by cupping her growing belly for photographers as she arrived and rubbing her tummy when she performed. Bey and Baby shattered the previous Twitter record of 7,196 Tweets per second, which was set when the US lost a penalty shoot out during the Women’s World Cup final in July.
The Jayonce Baby is due early next year.
In related news, this weekend’s VMAs drew MTV’s biggest audience since the network began measuring its viewership, attracting 12.4 million viewers.
