Score One for The Beyhive: Nominees for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were announced on Thursday morning and Beyonce’s self-titled visual album (the one she released in the dead of night, with zero promo) put the Pop Queen in front of the pack, with a leading eight nominations.
The “Drunk in Love” singer is up for Moonmen in a host of categories; including Best Female (“Partition”), Best Collaboration (“Drunk in Love”), Best Video with a Message (“Pretty Hurts”) and the prized Video of the Year (“Drunk in Love”). Beyonce — already the recipient of 12 VMAs — could set a record for the second most career wins. Lady Gaga and Peter Gabriel are tied for the current record, each with 13 Moonmen. Madonna leads with a career total of 20.
Hubby Jay Z also received several nominations, along with “Happy” hitmaker Pharrell Williams, “Fancy” Aussie Iggy Azalea and BET boycotter Jason Derulo. Other nominees include Eminem, Kelly Rowland, Drake, Childish Gambino, Kanye West, John Legend, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, J.Cole, and first time nominees Fifth Harmony.
The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Aug. 24, @ 9 p.m. ET on MTV. CLICK HERE for a full round-up of this year’s nominees…
