There is no doubt that if this song was going to be sung it should have been by Etta. SHE immortalized the song. This was supposed to be the event of the century with Mr. Obama becoming the first black president. So I ask this – Who knows more about being black? Etta, who was around during segregation, or Beyonce, who wasn’t even thought of when it was illegal for blacks to marry whites? The inaugural ceremony became a media cluster aimed at promoting a movie – which, if anyone saw, wasn’t all that great.

everybody has right to voice there opinion about most things. however, i feel etta james is a legend in her own right! she is a pioneer entertainer/singer with a life that gave great joy to many with the heart felt love song “at last”. and it’s not that beyonce could’nt sing the song, but, i feel it was a slap in the face and an insult to have her sing that song, when etta james who is alive and well wasn’t even considered or asked to sing her own song at such and monumential time in history! what an honor & joy it would have brought, im sure, to etta james had she been offered that opportunity ! it surely would have made me want to kick somebodys butt!
