Beyonce Admits Lip-Synching at Obama Inauguration; Then Sings Anthem Live: “Any Questions?”
“Sure,” Beyonce says. She lip-synched the National Anthem at last week’s presidential inauguration.
But if you think its because the girl can’t bellow “The Star-Spangled Banner” with the best of ‘em, Mrs. Knowles-Carter thinks you’re sorely mistaken.
Rumors first surfaced that Beyonce lip-synched during President Barack Obama’s second swearing-in ceremony after a spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band leaked the news to the media 24 hours after the event. The band later backtracked on that statement, but Bey’s stayed tight-lipped on the controversy.
During her Super Bowl Media Day, the Halftime Show starlet finally confirmed the faux singing rumors — but just for good measure proceeded to sing the Anthem live for the press.
“Any questions?” Bey said simply once she finished.
After admitting to using a backing track, the 32-year-old diva explained the logic behind her controversial decision:
“I am a perfectionist…I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show and a very important moment for me. Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking the risk…so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I’m very proud of my performance.”
