Celeb and Public Fans Tracking The Beckhams’ Every Move and Snapping up L.A. Galaxy Tix
Celebrities are foaming at the mouth in anticipation of international soccer star David Beckham’s upcoming move to Los Angeles.
The Real Madrid player, 31, and his wife, Victoria, 32 (formerly “Posh Spice” of the now-defunct Spice Girls), are finalizing all the details of their big transplant. The couple’s son, Romeo — and not the $250 million salary — may have been the biggest deciding factor for the move. The four-year-old suffers from epilepsy and will have access to better medical care in the United States.
As midfielder David and his people work out contract kinks, Posh is in the throes of house hunting this week. (Will she choose something modern or classical? In the Hollywood Hills? Will the pool be shaped like a soccer ball?)
Stars like Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, and Steven Speilberg are already snapping up soccer tix and offering warm welcomings. Back in Spain, however, Real Madrid’s soccer coach isn’t sharing the joy. David’s contract expires in June, but he will reportedly sit out for the entire Spring season.
Word has it Hollywood producers are already thinking up ways to maximize David’s movie-star potential beyond cameo appearances in weekly gossip rags and Victoria’s sex appeal in Playboy. Hugh Hefner has already invited Posh to his mansion for dinner and talks to pose for the magazine, according to reports. (Though it’s iffy whether she’d actually strip down to her privates, Posh’s brunette locks make a nice, stark contrast against the bleach-blonde tresses of Hef #1 girls Holly and Kendra).
All in all, the Beckham family move is a good thing for the American public morale. Divorces and breakups are making headlines more often than Canary yellow engagement rings and Malawi adoptions. TomKat isn’t Golden Couple material in the vein of Reese and Ryan — but the Beckhams fit perfectly into that glamorous, gorgeous archetype.
We haven’t even approached the topic of Reality TV. I can just see it now … a sane version of The Osbornes.
