Batman, Turkey Christopher Nolan Name Theft Lawsuit

Mayor Hüseyin Kalkan of Batman, an oil producing community in southeastern Turkey, is suing film director Christopher Nolan for stealing his city’s name in the superhero’s latest big box office adventure, The Dark Knight.
The Turkish official is seeking royalties in his legal claim over the use of the name, which he says was used without the city’s permission, the British Telegraph reports.
“There is only one Batman in the world,” he said. “The American producers used the name of our city without informing us.”
The mayor says he can produce evidence proving that the town’s origins predate the 1939 debut of the DC Comics hero.

I can only wonder why, if this city can sue, other cities such as Batcave, North Carolina, have not sued. Because it would be useless. Most people agree that the fact that The Dark Knight has grossed about a billion dollars is the cause for this mayor suddenly deciding to do this. He actually could have used the famous movie to promote the city in a way that would not eventually bankrupt him. A good thing to keep in mind is that the mayor is not only saying he deserves money because Christopher Nolan made a good movie, but also that he deserves a monetary reparation because Nolan’s movie increased the crime and suicide rate in the city….. I doubt the movie can be linked to such statistics.
