The next installment in the Batman franchise has a title: (Drumroll please…..) The Dark Knight Rises.

The third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero is the sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins and 2008’s critically-acclaimed hit The Dark Knight — a film that won Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar.

“We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” director Chris Nolan told The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

While Nolan is keeping many of the details about the upcoming Warner Bros. production under his hat. Here’s what we know for sure: The movie will not be 3D (Hooray for cheap movie tickets!) and the film’s central villain will not be The Riddler or Mr. Freeze.Drats. Of course, there’s always Catwoman, we suppose!

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters in 2012.
