Barbara Walter’s Retirement Will Reunite All 11 “View” Co-Hosts
After 17 years of Hot Topics, Barbara Walters will retire as a panelist on The View next month. The 83-year-old news veteran remains the only original member of the five outspoken women she assembled as the daytime gabfest’s inaugural cast in 1997.
Many have come and gone since then. Some exits have been more noteworthy than others. (Star Jones, Rosie O’Donnell, we’re looking at you!) But somehow, View producers thought it would be a good idea to bring each of the 11 women who have co-hosted the show since its debut together in honor of Bab’s going-out bash.
Yep, that means Star and Rosie will be there, too. According to a Wednesday morning announcement from ABC, this one-time-only event will take place on Thursday, May 15, one day before Barbara’s final show.
If Walters had a heads-up about this little family reunion a bit sooner, we think she’d have been more discreet in her recent interview with Variety. You remember, the one where she she suggests that Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar were fired from The View in a bid to shake things up?
We just hope the network has security on standby.
Barbara and current View co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy will be joined by:
Meredith Vieira (1997-2006)
Star Jones (1997-2006)
Joy Behar (1997-2013)
Debbie Matenopoulos (1997-1998)
Lisa Ling (1999-2002)
Rosie O’Donnell (2006-2007)
Elisabeth Hasselbeck (2003-2013)
Whoopi and Sherri joined the show in 2007. Jenny made her controversial debut at the start of the current season.
This special View tribute will air in addition to several other final week tributes ABC has planned for Walters. Fans can look forward to surprise guests and a retrospective special honoring the journalist’s life and career.
