Barbara Walters has been stricken with an itchy, highly contagious viral disease that most people deal with as children: The 83-year-old TV veteran is being treated for chicken pox.
Babs has been hospitalized since Jan. 19, when she took a fall and hit her head while covering the Obama inauguration festivities in Washington. Doctors refused release her because she was running a temperature; now we know why.
Walters’ View co-host Whoopi Goldberg delivered the news on Monday’s show:
“We want to give you an update on Barbara. You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She’d never had it as a child. So now she’s been told to rest, she’s not allowed any visitors. And we’re telling you, Barbara, no scratching! We love you. We miss you. We just don’t want to hug you.”
