Balloon Boy Announcement
After promising a “big announcement” on Saturday, Richard Heene, the father of the so-called “Balloon Boy” met with reporters outside his home in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Heene knocked on the windows of journalists camped outside the family’s compound early Saturday and promised a “big announcement” in a few hours. The storm scientist then did an about-face, instead suggesting that the press write their questions down and leave them in a cardboard box on his doorstep. Heene said he’d answer the questions at another news conference later, The Associated Press reports.
“Absolutely no hoax, I want your questions in the box,” he said.
On Friday, Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told the press that while his department does not believe that Richard and Mayumi Heene were attempting a hoax in announcing that their six-year-old son Falcon had lifted away on a balloon, the department had contacted Child Protective Services about the family.
The Heenes were featured on an episode ofthe colorful ABC reality series Wife Swap in March.
