Austin Mahone Hospitalized; Tour Cancelled
As the workweeks winds to an end, #PrayforAustin was the top trending Twitter topic for much of the day Friday. The hashtag honors Austin Mahone, a teen pop idol currently hospitalized after falling ill with a nasty case of the flu.
The singer, 17, shared a photo of himself several hours ago on Instagram in a hospital gown with the caption:
“I’ve never felt so bad.”
Unfortunately for Mahone fans (or “Mahomies,” as they are commonly known), the musician’s illness means his international “MTV Artist To Watch Tour” has been put on ice. The heartthrob, who shared the stage with Taylor Swift for several of her own tour dates, was excited to be headlining his own excursion.
This morning, the singer’s camps issued an official statement confirming plans to axe the entire tour.
“Due to illness, Austin Mahone will unfortunately have to postpone his sold-out ‘MTV Artist to Watch Presents Tour’ to 2014. The singer, who fell ill earlier this week and already postponed his Miami and Orlando shows, is now on strict Dr.’s orders to stay on rest and will need to reschedule all dates on the tour. The tour featured support artists Becky G, Midnight Red, and W3 The Future. Ticket holders for the sold out tour will be notified of the new 2014 dates and all details as soon as possible.”
In a melancholy tweet Thursday, Austin expressed disappointment over the tour’s cancellation and his impromptu hospitalization.
“I can’t believe this is happening its my first tour I’m so upset. I feel like I’m letting you all down.”
Michelle Mahone, Austin’s mom, was also quick to contact fans on Twitter with a personal message, writing:
“Austin is very upset about this & we want to say we are sorry to all the Mahomies & their parents who have made arrangements to come out. We feel very bad…Thank you for your prayers.”
