The Atlanta Hawks have certainly had one of the more impressive and also surprising seasons over the course of the NBA season. No one expected them to be as good as they are, and yet they have the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference and are a favorite to make the NBA finals.

As a result of the incredible record and turnaround, the Atlanta Hawks’ head coach, Mike Budenholzer, has been named the coach of the year in the NBA. Budenholzer is a former assistant under Spurs head coach Greg Popovich, so the new coach of the Hawks is obviously no stranger to winning.

The Hawks had the second-best record in the league with a record of 60-22, finishing only behind the Golden State Warriors, but the best in their conference. It is also their best regular-season record in the history of the franchise.

Budenholer received 67 out of a possible 130 first-place votes and 513 overall points in order to be named the NBA’s coach of the year, finishing just ahead of Steve Kerr, coach of the Warriors. It is a high honor and one that comes with a lot of hard work, which the Hawks have certainly put in, in order to get where they are right now.

The Atlanta Hawks earned the No.1 seed in the playoffs and, as a result, received a match-up with the Brooklyn Nets. Ironically, after a number of surprising blowouts over the weekend, the game between the Hawks and Nets was actually one of the closest. The Hawks came away with a victory and led for most of the game, but they only won by 7 points.

The Hawks ranked sixth in offensive efficiency and seventh in defensive efficiency this season. The team also ranked second in assist rate and have some of the most effective offensive players with Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver.

The Atlanta Hawks will host the Brooklyn Nets for game 2 of the series on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Despite having the No.1 seed, the Cavs seem to be the favorite to get to the finals as of right now with stars like Lebron James and Kyrie Irving.
