Anne Hathaway to play Judy Garland… I personally have never heard Hathaway sing before and I do like Zooey’s voice, but I think since so many people see Hathaway as a “bigger” actress than Zooey, and we’ve seen the roles Hathaway has taken on. And then you look at the roles Zooey has done: a very type-casted singing girl, kind of shy and to herself. I think Anne could pull off the role of Judy Garland; not saying it’d be to the “T” because no one can EVER replace little Dorothy. I do believe, however, that Hathaway could do a fair job.

Actually I think a better actress to play the part of Judy would have been Danielle Panabaker.

Exactly. There is no known actress today that is capable of this role. I love Anne also but as Judy Garland?? Except for brown hair how is she supposed to look like her? And I love Zooey also but that would never work either. Walk the Line was believable with Phoenix b/c Cash didnt have a wide ranging voice but there is no way I would see this movie unless they find an unknown that looks more like her and can, undoubtedly, match somewhat on her vocals. Otherwise, its just a slap in the face imitation.

I do enjoy Anne Hathaway, but honestly, she doesn’t look anything like Judy! And she definitely doesn’t have a voice anywhere near Judy’s. Zooey beats her on that, for sure, but seriously? Anne as Judy? NO. I can’t imagine her as Judy at all. Judy Davis played Garland magnificently, and they need to leave it at that. Let Judy rest in peace already.

I Love the Zooey for the Part WAY better than Anne.
I love Anne, but NOT to play Judy Garland, the singing voice isn’t there. Sorry, but then again there probably isn’t a actress this day and age that can match the classic velvet voice of Judy.

Zooey Deschanel? You’ve got to be kidding.

Don’t get me wrong – I like Zooey, and have the She & Him record, but Zooey has a pleasant voice at best, one more suited to folk and indie rock.

Anne Hathaway is a great choice (though she looks more like Liza than Judy). Anne proved with her singing at the Oscars that she knows how to belt one out – which is the kind of voice ANYONE playing Judy needs to have.
