Andy Samberg To Host The 2015 Emmy Awards, Earns His First Gig As Host

His time has finally come, and Andy Samberg will be 2015’s Emmy Awards host. The comedic genius has proven that he can provide laughs in film and television, and will now look to take his comedy chops to the stage for award hosting.

It is fitting that Samberg when the award show returns to the Fox network since he is currently the star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a critically acclaimed show, which has not won any Emmy Awards, but did receive two Golden Globes in a huge surprise after the show’s first season.

Unlike other awards shows, the Emmy Awards are featured on a different major network each year, and most recently was shown on NBC, also airing earlier in the year due to Sunday night’s football coverage.

Andy Samberg is an alumni of Saturday Night Live as well, and has actually won an Emmy Award for his writing on the show, a hilarious bit with Justin TImberlake called “Dick In A Box.” He was recently seen on stage at the Academy Awards as well as a part of his comedy group The Lonely Island, along with Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, to perform “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie.

In a statement regarding his selection as the host of the Emmys, Samberg stated “Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers! Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts.”

Andy Samberg becomes the second former SNL member to host the Emmys in as many years following Seth Myers who hosted last year. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have also generated a lot of popularity as hosts of the Golden Globes for the past three years. How do you feel about Andy Samberg hosting this year’s Emmy Awards?
