Amy Winehouse Subutex Drug Addiction Treatment

Amy Winehouse has been placed on an experimental new drug in a last-ditch effort to conquer her addiction to heroin and crack cocaine. Amy has been prescribed Subutex, a non-addictive alternative to methdone, which has traditionally been used to curb heroin dependency.
“All Amy’s cravings for heroin will be gone.”
“Amy may well be suited to maintenance treatment over several months so she can sort out her life,” say Dr Margaret McCann, an addiction specialist at Castle Craig Hospital near Edinburgh. “It will allow her a breathing space where she can receive counseling and support….This approach is very good for helping people who have led chaotic lives.”
“Putting Amy on Subutex gives her a head start over addicts because it is a clean drug and it is not itself addictive,” says David Knott, who treats addiction at Manor Clinic in Southampton. “We have a very good success rate with it. You take it for a minimum of two weeks and you are clean of your addiction.”

i am a bis suss about the clean in 2 weeks claim i have been on subtex and allthough i havnt used since starting i am in no way clean as my psycological dependancy is still there and untill that is delt with I dont think you can truely say you are compleatly clean……..i was previously on methadone for 8 months then changed to subutex 9 weeks ago i started on 10mg and have reduced to 4 mig and the reductions get harder not easier each time and i am not the only one who states that. i must however say the methadone was worse to be on i am thinking so much clearer now on the subutex so thats good. I will have to be on it long term as i have chronic arthritis and the alternitave is back on high doses of tramadol and oxycodon which is not an option really so i am stuck on subutex but at least im not using ontop of the subs like i was on the painkillers………..read as much as you can about long term subutex use and where ever poss try and get off it as quick as safely possible as its just another habit to kick and the doctors replace your normal dealer, thats how i feel anyway…..but each to there own…..kitten

I TOTALLY agree with kitten!!! I have currently been on Subs for 2 years and to get sober i had to do 0 work. as soon as i took my first dose, all addiction issues were gone, as if i were never an addict. i was on top of the world, omg i'm me again. little did i know what i was in for. after a few weeks on this medicine the antisocial behaviors and sleepyness and all the side effects kicked in. I have tried 6 to 7 times to get off subs and it was unbearable even at day 5. you definitly can get addicted to subs and that's total crap to say you can't. it's still an opiate. now you can't abuse the subs like normal opiates but addiction OH YES. an absolute nightmare to come off. yes at first it's the miracle but you better jump quick. i'm so scared i will never be free of this wicked monkey. i would rather be addicted to regular pain pills than this. i have never been on anything quiet so mind altering. it took a crazy party girl to a boring non social person within 45 min of my first dose. if it can do that to a person, you're not dealing with a simple, non addictive medicine.

If you wean down to the lowest dose possible and alternate days, skip days etc then coming off subutex is possible. Ive done it.I was on it for3 years10mg.Ireduced slowly as that what my doctor advised. I felt slight withdrawals but took fish oils and over the counter stuff. Now am 4 months in and am fine. I dont see the fuss here. Maybe people dont wean down or something or they aitn strong or right in the head, i dont know. But i know many people who use this and then reduce and dont have problems and few you you are making out.Weird.
