“American Idol” Puerto Rico Audition 300 People

The Boricuas shouted a resounding No Gracias! to America’s No. 1 reality series on Monday as the annual American Idol Audition Tour’s first stop on the island of Puerto Rico brought out a disappointing (Drumroll, Please) 300 contestants.
The number of contenders, who arrive accompanied by aunts, uncles, and banners of encouragement, typically surpasses 10,000 for Idol auditions in the Continental United States; making the weak turnout in P.R an even tougher blow to the approaching eighth season of American Idol.
According to Puerto Rico’s El Nuevo Dia, show producer even extended auditions in hopes of attracting more Idol hopefuls-to no avail.
American Idol 8 premieres on FOX January 16.

AI didn’t announce the PR audition enough. Most people I know weren’t even aware that AI was going to be in PR until after the fact. There is a local version of AI in PR that gets thousands of applicants each year, but they announce the auditions on the radio, newspapers, in universities etc, months in advance.
