One-time American Idol winner Kris Allen rang in 2013 from a hospital bed.

On Tuesday, the Idol Season 8 champion was involved in a “really bad wreck” that left him with a broken wrist. Kris’ pregnant wife, Katy, and the couple’s pet pooch Zorro had been riding shotgun.

Neither were seriously injured.

His mother, Kimberly Allen, tweeted the news along with a photo of her son, writing:

“From Kris: he’s in a lot of pain, arm broke, may not play guitar for a while. Prayers welcome please! #headoncollision.”

“Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I’m having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy,” Kris tweeted.

The singer won the Ford Mustang involved in the crash as part of his 2009 Idol win.
Grateful that all were able to walk away from the accident, Kris thanked “@ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe.”
