Big changes are ahead for the eighth season of American Idol. After taking a dip in ratings last season, the most popular show in America is adding a fourth judge. Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi will take a seat next to Randy, Simon, and Paula when American Idol 8 premieres on FOX in January 2009.

“For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges’ table. … With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show,” Fox boss Mike Darnell said in a statement Monday.

“We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,” show creator and executive producer Simon Fuller says.

“She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

I was less shocked to hear they were adding a new judge than I was to find out people still care about this show. I mean, do they really think adding yet another person to bicker with the judges will increase ratings? Puh-leeeeeze.

I first thought they were going to replace Paula. It turned out the producers decided to add a fourth judge. Though there’s gossip that Paula is pissed about this, I expect new “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi will add fresh inputs and better critique of the contestants’ performances.

I think the new judge is nasty and full of herself. I dislike her, because even though Simon is known for being mean and nasty, he is very truthful and his face is soft and basically he will roll his eyes to bad singers. This new judge is nasty and her upper lip is stuck up just like her personality. She does not look at the the contestants while commenting but rather to her paper on her table that is infront of her. I do not like her at all. She’s taken over the group, and too pushy. Basically, I probably won’t watch the show because of her.

I agree, the new judge adds nothing, she seems more interested in flirting with Simon than judging the people trying out. She loud, rude, and has nothing to say that contributes. I also feel bad for Paula because it altered the dynamics and this new woman seems to want to talk over her and steal any attention that may be going to Paula.

I have never really cared for the new AI judge (Kara) but after last night….I really can’t stand to hear her talk. she is the pitts. I just wanted her to stop talking.. and what was she wearing anyway??? she looked ridiculous with that 70’s black leather jacket and weird hairstyle.
