After 21 years as Sami Brady on NBC’s daytime drama Days of Our Lives, Alison Sweeney has announced that she will exit the role later this year.
Sweeney made the announcement on Tuesday’s Ellen. Sweeney — who doubles as host of The Biggest Loser — says her other major role, as a wife and mother, was a major influence in her decision to leave the longrunning show.
“I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show. I’ve been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16 years old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans. I love everything about it. I just work so much and my daughter just turned five and my son is nine and I just want to be with them.”
Producers are keeping an exit date loose as writers work on a final storyline for Sami.
“We don’t have a specific time yet, but I’m going to be on all this year and we’ll see what happens.”
Sweeney’s still on he face about whether or not Sami deserves “some kind of happy ending.”
“…I don’t know… she’s caused a lot of people a lot of problems.”
Meanwhile, Sweeney will continue on as host of The Biggest Loser.
