American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken is apparently in line to be named to the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID), according to an official statement from the White House on Wednesday.
Aiken once worked as a YMCA counselor and rose to fame as the popular runner-up on “American Idol.”
According to the committee’s website, PCPID advises the president when it comes to issues about people with intellectual disabilities. Established in 1961 by former president John F. Kennedy, the committee was formerly referred to as the President’s Panel on Mental Retardation.
According to a press release issued by the White House, President Bush himself intends to make the appointment, although it’s unclear when this will take place.
Due out later this month is Aiken’s new album, “A Thousand Different Ways.”
