Matthew Fox is returning to his Alma Mater in the Spring to deliver the commencement speech at Columbia College Class Day.

Matthew, who is 40, graduated Class of ’89 with a B.A. in Economics and played wide receiver on the Lions’ varsity football team.

Fox will be giving the commencement speech on Low Plaza on Tuesday morning, May 15-and most alums and graduating seniors aren’t happy:

According to BWOG, a faction of Columbia’s undergraduate magazine:

It’s Matthew Fox, of Lost fame. We hope this is a joke. (Though some of you commenters in the other thread seemed prescient…)

“The general mood among seniors: either appalled, or wondering if Quigley and Chait were playing an extended joke. Even the video montage of headshots from the likes of Party of Five failed to quell rumors this was some kind of gag.”
