’80s Babies, Rejoice: “Jem” The Movie Coming Soon

But we’re The Misfits. Our songs are better…In news that can only be described as “truly outrageous,” Jem is coming to the silver screen.

Jem and the Holograms, which ran from 1985-1988, followed the adventures of music company mogul Jerrica, who discovered a high-tech computer Synergy — which allowed her to transform herself into a makeup-lovin’ rock star. She rocked out with her girls, The Holograms, and was a well-dressed thorn in the sides of those pesky Misfits! The animated hit gave Barbie a run for her pumps when Jem was released as a doll back in ’87!

Hasbro has been enormously successful bringing its most two most popular ’80s animated series — Transformers and G.I. Joe — to the big screen, so naturally it’s no surprise that the company has decided to give Jem and the Holograms the Hollywood treatment as well.

The movie will be directed by G.I. Joe: Retaliation lensman Jon M. Chu and will be produced by Jason Blum of Sinister fame. Brace yourselves — Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun is on board as a musical advisor.

In what could be a first for a movie of this scale, Chu, Blum and Braun are turning to fans for script ideas…or anything else you might have to offer.

“We want to invite you into our process and help us make our next movie. From writing music to designing costume to casting — whatever it is, we want you to be part of our creative team. Sort of like Kickstarter, except rather than asking for money, we’re asking for your creativity.”
