2009 Tony Awards Nominations

Billy Elliot, this season’s biggest musical hit, dominated the 2009 Tony Award nominations Tuesday morning. The show picked up fifteen nods — based on the popular British movie about a coal miner’s son who dreams of becoming a dancer– more than any other show this year.

And there are quite a few celebrity nominees, too. Music legends Dolly Parton and Elton John are both up for Tonys this year. Dolly is nominated for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre were Parton, for 9 to 5: The Musical, while Elton John received a nod for Billy Elliot, The Musical.

The Tony Awards will be broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
