19. “Pyramid Jacket” – Desperately Seeking Susan

The film that launched Madonna’s acting career (but couldn’t sustain it — what could?) focuses on a case of mistaken identity. Our two heroines are suburban housewife Roberta (Rosanna Arquette) and New York underground scene bad girl Susan (Madonna). Their common thread: their threads — well, specifically a funky jacket with a pyramid on the back. Susan swaps it for a pair of boots at a thrift store; Roberta buys it, then loses her memory; high jinks ensue.
