“16 & Pregnant” Spinoff “Teen Mom”
MTV’s breakout reality hit 16 & Pregnant has inspired a spinoff.
The increasingly reality-centered cable network has ordered eight sixty-minute episodes of Teen Mom, a documentary series featuring four girls from the first season of 16 & Pregnant — hosted by Dr. Drew — as they deal with the challenges of their first year of motherhood, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Each girl’s story will touch upon topics of importance to young single parents, such as marriage, relationships, family support, adoption, financial support, education, employment, and moving out of their parents’ houses to start their own families.
Having drawn strong ratings in its first season, 16 & Pregnant — which debuted June 11 — was recently renewed for a sophomore season.
Some of the young mothers from the new series will be on hand to host a 16 & Pregnant Marathon on Labor Day.
Teen Mom is set to premiere on MTV later this year.
