We all love to go see a good action film at the movie theater. Over the years, action films have grown to be more and more engaging and daring.
What we truly love about the films though is the main action star or the hero of the film. Growing up we all had a few action movie stars that we would constantly see in all of our favorite movies. We would go to the movie just because they were in it!
But that was then and this is now. Years later those once young actors have aged with us and they are no longer the young and agile actors that they once were. They have all reached points in their lives where they shouldn’t be thinking about jumping from buildings or driving tanks. Instead, they should be thinking about retirement or perhaps taking on some dramatic or comedy roles.
Here’s a list of 15 action stars that should probably call it quits or find some new non-action movies to star in.
Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson was born January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York, USA, as the sixth of eleven children of Hutton Gibson, a railroad brakeman, and Anne Patricia (Reilly) Gibson. Mel Gibson has been in well-known action movie roles such as Braveheart, Lethal Weapon and The Patriot. We’ve received many famous scenes and lines from Mel, but it’s time to hang up the gloves.
Actor and musician Bruce Willis is well known for playing wisecracking or hard-edged characters, often in spectacular action films. Collectively, he has appeared in films that have grossed in excess of $2.5 billion USD, placing him in the top ten stars in terms of box-office receipts. Bruce has been in action films such as Die Hard, The Fifth Element and Armageddon but times have changed and he’s too old to be kicking ass anymore.
Perhaps the icon of macho movie stars, and a living legend, Clint Eastwood has become a standard in international cinema.Born May 31, 1930 in San Francisco, the elder of two children in an upper-middle-class family, Eastwood finished high school at the comparatively late age of 19 and worked odd jobs for several years before enrolling at Los Angeles City College, from which he dropped out after two semesters to pursue acting. Eastwood has been in many famous action movies such as Rawhide, Unforgiven and Maverick.
Hong Kong’s cheeky, lovable and best-known film star, Jackie Chan endured many years of long, hard work and multiple injuries to establish international success via his early beginnings in Hong Kong’s manic martial arts cinema industry. Chan has been in action movies such as Rush Hour, Shanghai Knights and Around the World in 80 Days. While he has given us years of fantastic karate movies, he needs to close up shop before he hurts himself.
Jean-Claude Van Damme
Van Damme was born Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Brussels, Belgium, to Eliana and Eugène Van Varenberg, an accountant. “The Muscles from Brussels” started martial arts at the age of eleven. Van Damme has created great action flicks such as Double Impact, Universal Soldier and Bloodsport. He’s given us some great action. But at age 55, it’s time to call it quits.
