9. Flying Taxicab, The Fifth Element
Maybe it's not altogether surprising that one of the most underrated sci-fi films in recent history features in this list. The truth is that Luc Besson's The Fifth Element was, and is, a great movie, but is largely under-appreciated. The story follows Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) as he simultaneously protects the tantalizing Milla Jovovich and locates the whereabouts of a set of ancient elemental stones sought after by crazy Jean-Paul Gaultier clad bad guy Zorg — brilliantly played by Gary Oldman. One of the keys to the movie's greatness is the way in which it depicts a futuristic world and an advanced New York City, complete with NYC-style hovering taxi cabs and police vehicles. It's Korben's cab which is the catalyst for the whole tale, and seeing as it features in surely the most memorable vertical/horizontal sky chase scene ever to hit the streets of The Big Apple, it truly deserves to be here.
