Obi-Wan Kenobi’s original actor, Alec Guinness, may have been savvy enough to realize that Star Wars would be a hit (he managed to get a deal for 2% of the gross profit, which obviously set him up for life), but that didn’t stop him from revolting against the moments of bad dialogue and distancing himself from them as much as he could. The Academy Award-winning actor once famously gave a fanboy an autograph on the condition that he never watch the movie again. Obi-Wan’s death in Episode IV was, according to Guinness, a result of him pleading with Lucas to kill the character off because he “just couldn’t go on speaking those bloody awful, banal lines.
