10 Best Crime Movie Remakes Of All Time
7. The Thomas Crown Affair
The original Thomas Crown Affair was a film about a bored millionaire (played by Steve McQueen) who orchestrates a bank robbery simply because he has nothing else to challenge him (sheesh, couldn’t he just take up a sport or something?) whilst the remake switched the object being stolen to a Monet painting. It’s an uphill battle for a movie to make the character of a rich guy who steals people’s money for fun likeable, but luckily in the new version Pierce Brosnan is there to bring his considerable charm to the master criminal role. Brosnan could probably play a baby seal clubber and still look cool… The remake received a somewhat more positive reception from critics than the original, and even gained praise from some of the same people who disliked the first movie. Pretty impressive for a re-imagining of such a cult classic.
